Technically, it’s only the next day (or year), but the heat is already starting on New Year’s Eve: right after the fireworks, the New Year’s parade turns the new year into a carnival, with musicians and revelers occupying the streets of Rio and riding through the night until dawn. The starting location will not be announced until the 31st (stay tuned on Instagram @cortejodavirada), but the route of the traveling group, in its 9th edition, usually leaves from Rua Prado Júnior, near Cervantes, towards Arpoador.
