
A retired military police officer responded to an attempted robbery and shot one of the criminals, on Wednesday morning (3/12), on Rua Bom Jesus do Amparo, in Vila Jaguara, west of São Paulo. The 20-year-old suspect was rescued, but succumbed to his injuries and died.
Pictures taken by security cameras show the moment when the police officer was riding his motorcycle and was approached by three men who arrived on two motorcycles. The recordings show the retired prime minister initially surrendering, allowing the criminals to approach the motorcycle. Seconds later, he pulled out his gun and fired, hitting one of the robbers in the head. The other two suspects fled shortly after the shooting.

According to the Public Security Secretariat, the young man who was shot was rescued by a rescue team and taken to Peritoba Hospital, but he did not survive his injuries. The suspect’s cell phone and the gun used by the police officer were confiscated and sent for forensic examination.
The case was registered with the 33rd Police District, which requested examinations from the Criminal Institute (IC) and the Institute of Medico-Legal (IML). Civilian police are making efforts to identify and locate others involved in the attempted robbery.
