
The National Police have dismantled in Tenerife a sect which, in order to enrich itself at the expense of psychological control of his supportersproposed rituals including the sacrifice of domestic animals, in an operation in which five people were arrested, including the leader of the organization, who is in temporary prison.
The inmates, who held ceremonies with figures and objects representing deities in which substances such as Jimsonweed, cocaine and hallucinogenswere charged with alleged crimes of unlawful association, animal abuse, fraud, injury, against public health and falsification of documents.
Under the protection of Santeria practices, those arrested subjected their followers to absolute control, vulnerable peoplewhom they manipulated by deceiving and sowing fear, sometimes of a spiritual nature, according to the police investigation. According to the National Police, the psychological control exercised by the leader was of such intensity that several supporters had to receive psychiatric treatment.
The group played esoteric rituals with which they were supposed to avoid spiritual evils or even illnesses, in which animals were sacrificed and substances such as Jimsonweed, “popper” or cocaine were consumed.
Four members of the sect were arrested in Tenerife and one in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and were brought to justiceafter which the judge sent the alleged leader to temporary prison and imposed precautionary measures on the others.
