The body of Spanish businessman Joan Suriol Giralt, 52, was found this Tuesday morning (23/12) in the Vital lagoon, in Maxaranguape (RN). The man was last seen this weekend, when he arrived alone to guard his food stall.
It was one of the man’s employees, who was helping with the search, who found the body under the reeds. The worker even reported smelling a strong odor as he approached an island and finding the victim face down, partially covered by the bush.
Firefighters were called to the scene to rescue the body and the area was isolated for the work of the scientific police, responsible for the investigation. According to the army, the man showed signs of injuries to his face.
The circumstances of the death are still under investigation by the civil police.

Joan’s family claims the tent’s security cameras recorded the businessman’s arrival at the scene. However, there is no record of what happened next.
The man’s cell phone and documents were found inside the premises. His car was also parked.
Also on Sunday (12/21), the Military Police went to the lagoon and asked the family to wait 24 hours to register the police report, which was done this Monday (12/26). On Tuesday morning, family members and employees began searching for the victim again when the body was found.
Joan Suriol Giralt was described by her family and employees as a calm, hardworking person with no history of conflict. He moved to Lagoa do Vital, on Caraúbas beach, about a year and a half ago.
