
A woman lost her life this Thursday after being swept away by a wave on Cuncheiras beachin the town of Pontevedra, Baiona. It was an individual who raised the alarm around 2:35 p.m., alerting the emergency center that he had seen how the water was carrying the victim. The woman was on a rock near the sandy area when she was swept away by the waves, causing the informant to lose track of her, according to 112 Galicia.
With this information, the operators of the Integrated Emergency Care Center of Galicia (CIAE-112) informed the Maritime Rescue, the Gardacostas Service of Galicia, the Local Police, the GES of Valmiñor and the Civil Guard.
A few minutes later, another person contacted 112 to warn that there was a body lying on the beach and, later, emergency services confirmed that it was indeed the woman. The sources consulted specified that the victim was on the beach taking photos when she was swept away by the wave.
This Thursday, the General Directorate of Emergencies maintains an active orange alert throughout the Galician coast due to heavy rain and wind. Due to the storm, the Xunta stressed the importance of staying away from the coast and calls for extreme safety measures when carrying out any activity at sea and check boat ropes and moorings.
