After being charged with double murder on frivolous grounds, Renata Iris de Souza Araujo Pinheiro, who killed her husband, military police officer Wagner Sandez Pinheiro de Lima, was sentenced to one year and six months in prison, initially under an open regime. The trial took place on Tuesday (3/12) in Fortaleza (CE).
The murder occurred on December 23 last year, at around 7:30 p.m., at the couple’s home located in the Granja neighborhood of Lisbon. Renata used her husband’s gun and shot him twice fatally in front of their eight-year-old daughter. Renata was caught red-handed and confessed to committing the crime, but claimed in her statement that the shooting was accidental.
According to the complaint filed by the Public Ministry of Ceará (MPPE), the crime was committed during an argument caused by jealousy. Minutes before his killing, the corporal had announced to his sister, in a WhatsApp conversation, that he had separated from his wife, who did not accept the end of the relationship. She was going to discover her husband’s infidelity.

After the crime, Renata herself called the police for discharging a firearm. At the scene, she was caught red-handed. After a hearing the next day, the arrest was transferred to pretrial detention.
The jury decided there was no intent (guilt) and dropped the charge of voluntary manslaughter when there was no intent to kill.
