The awards given by the Junta de Andalucía to the best journalistic works of the year have distinguished this brutal speech with the Sevillian bullfighter during his retirement in Portugal, in Marinha Grande, of enormous informative value since it not only alludes to his side as a bullfighter and his possible reappearance in the bullring but also to his health and mental problems, his treatment and his vision of life and death.
In this edition these awards also reward the famous Andalusian journalist Carlos Herrera for his entire long and exceptional professional career, which the Andalusian government now wants to praise. At 68 years old, Herrera has directed the morning show “Herrera en COPE” on this channel since September 1, 2015. Previously, from 2004 to March 2015, he directed the morning show “Herrera en la onda” on Onda Cero radio. He has developed his professional career mainly in the radio environment, although he also collaborates in the written press, as a columnist for ABC, and has worked on several television programs.
Furthermore, in the television category, the Andalusian Journalism Prize was awarded to program number 7,000 of the famous Andalucía Directo afternoon programwhich is currently the oldest television channel in Spain.
Concerning radio, the prize went to a work on the ETA terrorist Henri Parot, “Parot, the man without a soul”directed by South Channel and directed by the journalist Antonio Salvador, with unpublished testimonies on the attempted attack in Seville in 1990 and the arrest of the Frenchman without being able to achieve his macabre objective with a car bomb in the center of the Seville capital.
Furthermore, the Andalusian Photojournalism Prize was awarded to Alejandro Cámara for his work “See in the dark”, a magnificent image of the Alhambra in the dark, with the perspective taken from the Albaicín district, on the day of the famous electricity blackout of April 28 throughout Spain, with the starry sky in the background and the distant light of a building supported by a generator which contrasted with the silhouette of the famous monument of Granada. The original photograph received significant print media coverage the following day.
On the other hand, the prize for international influence was awarded to the photojournalist Daniel Pérez for his work on Semana Santa de Málaga (“Holy Week in Málaga, from Andalusia to the world”), a report in which the actor Antonio Banderas also appeared with images that media such as The Guardian and National Geographic included in their editions. And in the Infographics category, the work of news from Canal Sur Télévision. An honorable mention was also awarded to the popular sports site Lots of sport for its 25 years of activity not only with the main football teams but also with reporting in favor of minority sports where Andalusians stand out in the space “Andalusia is sport”.
