Cher may be about to walk down the aisle again. Nearly 50 years after the end of her second marriage, the “Believe” singer, who turns 80 in May 2026, plans to officially marry her boyfriend Alexander “AE” Edwards, according to British newspaper The Mirror. A source close to the couple said the 40-year difference between the two “doesn’t matter” and that they are both ready to commit.

Reps for Cher and Edwards have not commented on the news, but the artist has made it clear on other occasions that criticism of their relationship does not affect her. In a November interview with CBS Mornings, she responded to comments about the age difference with her usual good humor: “It doesn’t matter. They’re not living my life. Nobody knows what’s going on between us, but we’re having a lot of fun.”
According to the artist, Edwards, 39, doesn’t see age as an obstacle either. “He says, ‘You’re getting old, but your spirit is young,’” she said. Cher, in turn, is full of praise for her partner, with whom she has been in a relationship for three years: “I love him. I find him handsome, very talented. He is one of the most talented people I have ever met.”

The two were first seen together in November 2022 in Los Angeles. Days later, Cher confirmed the romance on social media – and, when asked about the criticism, told X: “I don’t care what other people think. We’re happy and we’re not bothering anyone.”
Since then, the couple has made major public appearances, including on the Versace red carpet in March 2023. Edwards has a son from a previous relationship with Amber Rose, 6-year-old Slash.
The two already live together in Cher’s 1,208-square-foot Italian Renaissance-style mansion in Malibu.
Before her current romance, Cher was married to singer, songwriter, actor and politician Sonny Bono (1964 to 1975) and musician Gregg Allman (1975 to 1979), in addition to dating such names as Val Kilmer, Gene Simmons and Tom Cruise.

In her memoir, Cher details what her marriage to the late Sonny Bono was like, saying he “attacked” her at times and at one point “seriously considered” killing her. She wrote that she felt trapped in her marriage from 1969 to 1975, from which her son Chaz Bono was born. The ex-spouses rose to fame in the 1960s as the pop duo Sonny & Cher, and starred in a variety show of the same name in the 1970s. He later pursued a political career as mayor of Palm Springs and a U.S. congressman, before tragically dying in a skiing accident.
Cher married Gregg Allman on June 30, 1975, four days after her divorce from Sonny was finalized. She filed for divorce from her first marriage in February 1974. She and her second husband — the co-founder of the Allman Brothers Band, who died in 2017 at age 69 — had a son, Elijah Blue, in 1976. Elijah struggled with addiction his entire life, and last summer the 49-year-old musician was released from the hospital after an overdose.

Cher has also talked a lot about romances, such as with actor Val Kilmer (1959-2025) – which she describes as one of her great passions in life. They remained great friends and, at a time of Val’s frailty, while he was being treated for cancer in 2015, the two moved in together. Other past relationships include Kiss bassist Gene Simmons and even a brief relationship with Tom Cruise in the early 1980s, whom she once called “one of the best lovers” in old interviews. The artist also became involved with Richie Sambora (of Bon Jovi) and producer David Geffen.
