Madrid, December 12 (EFE). – The price of traditional nougat, both hard and soft, has increased by 15.95% compared to December last year, with the average cost at 23 euros/kilo due to the increased prices of almonds and eggs, an OCU study showed on Friday.
The price differences between hard and soft nougat are generally “minimal”, with increases of 15.8% and 16.1% respectively, according to the analysis of the price evolution of 107 references of traditional nougat carried out by the consumer organization.
According to their study, the price for own brands has risen by 9.4% to around 15 euros/kilo, and for manufacturer brands by 24.3% to an average price of 33 euros/kilo.
This price increase is due to the increased prices for almonds and eggs, which have made branded nougat “a luxury item,” emphasized the OCU.
The price of peeled almonds increased between January and August 2024 from 90/95 euros per 100 kilos to 120 euros in 2025, with peaks of 138 euros in June, according to data from the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (MAPA) processed by the OCU.
While protein has become 50% more expensive in the last six months, the organization added.
As for the remaining ingredients, the OCU has mentioned the fall in sugar prices, although its impact is “limited” compared to the weight of almonds.
Still, products with no added sugar saw an average increase of 13.6%, compared to 16.6% for products with honey and sugar, a difference that, according to the study, is largely due to the greater presence of nougats with no added sugar among white brands.
The OCU has advised consumers to compare prices and opt for cheaper alternatives to reduce the impact of price increases on the family economy. EFE
