Former bodybuilding champion Kevin Notário Nunes de Oliveira, aged 28, died this Friday morning, at the Ponta Porã Regional Hospital, in Mato Grosso do Sul, from health complications due to the misuse of products to gain muscle mass.
According to information from TV Morena, the athlete was rushed to hospital after reporting severe pain in his thigh. During medical examinations, professionals diagnosed necrotizing fasciitis, a serious and rapidly progressing infection that affects muscle tissue, commonly known as “flesh-eating bacteria.”
The athlete’s father, Councilor Marcelino Nunes de Oliveira, said his son’s death should serve as a warning about the risks of using banned substances to accelerate muscle gain.
“The search for the ideal body led to the childhood of my son Kevin. May this case serve as a warning to other young people and athletes who think about resorting to risky methods to improve their results,” Marcelino wrote in a message on social networks.
Kevin underwent emergency surgery Thursday afternoon, due to the severity of his condition. After the procedure, he remained intubated, indicating a critical state of health. Despite medical treatment, he did not survive and died the next day.
Known for his performances in bodybuilding, Kevin had won titles in state competitions, thus consolidating himself as one of the names in the sport in Mato Grosso do Sul.
