The National Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has raised the storm alert in Malaga to the red alert level. Intense rains, storms and coastal phenomena are expected in the Guadalhorce regions and the Costa del Sol.
In addition, the mass alert system “EsAlert”, better known as Reverse 112, was activated this Saturday in the province of Malaga in red warning zones due to rain.
“We sent ‘EsAlert’ to 27 municipalities on the Costa del Sol and Guadalhorce in Malaga with a red warning from Aemet with rain,” tweeted Juanma Moreno, president of the Junta de Andalucía. Moreno reminds in his message that one should avoid unnecessary travel, avoid crossing areas prone to flooding, climb to the highest part of the house in case of flooding or be extremely careful.
Aemet has raised the rain warning to red for the night of this Saturday and Sunday, December 28, until 3:59 a.m., and maintains the yellow warning until 9:59 a.m., in the areas of Sol and Guadalhorce.
It should be remembered that the 112 Andalusia emergency service responded during the day to almost 70 incidents linked to the rains that fell throughout the community, with the province of Malaga being the most affected by the precipitation, “although no significant personal or material damage was recorded”.
Many of these reports were due to falling items – fences, street signs, telephone poles, lamp posts, branches, Christmas lights, awnings, façade elements and the like, which had fallen or were about to fall; flooding in garages and houses and road accidents without injuries.
