After Bolsonaro’s arrest, Michele indicated that she would be Tarcisio’s deputy

Former First Lady Michelle Bolsonaro (PL) has begun signaling to allies that she is ready to run for the position of Vice President of the Republic in 2026, on a list headed by the Governor of São Paulo, Tárcicio de Freitas (Rep).

The signal, according to reports provided by people close to the Bolsonaro clan, was given by Michele in conversations in recent days, after her husband began serving the sentence he was sentenced to in the so-called coup investigation.

The assessment in the Bolsonaro clan is that it is necessary to have someone from the family on the presidential ticket to maintain the family’s influence. The fear is that if Tarcisio is elected, he will grow politically and leave the legacy of Jair Bolsonaro in the background.

In private conversations, Michele said she respects and trusts Tarcisio. The former First Lady believes, according to those close to her, that the current governor of São Paulo will not betray the former President of the Republic.

Michelle’s original plan was to run for a federal district Senate seat in 2026. The former first lady, as reported in the column, was considering placing one of her brothers as a surrogate on the Senate ticket.

However, the former first lady told her allies that she would, if necessary, abandon her Senate candidacy for the Democratic district – where she has a high chance of being elected – to join Tarcisio in the Planalto Palace.

Flavio wants to be a candidate

Another option that has been considered in the family is to launch Senator Flavio Bolsonaro (PL-RJ) as a presidential candidate. The former president’s eldest son has told allies that he is willing to give up re-election to the Senate to run for Planalto.

However, Bolsonaro’s allies acknowledge that Flavio’s name will face greater resistance among Centrao parties and in the judiciary. The assessment is that it will be easier to get support with Tarcísio at the head of the ticket.
