With the conclusion this Tuesday of the trial of the last accused of the coup plot, the Federal Court (STF) is preparing to close this chapter begun in March 2025, with the analysis of the complaints from the Attorney General’s Office (PGR), and to face a series of new political agendas in 2026. This is the case of investigations into deviations from parliamentary amendments, with a first trial already planned by the Court, in addition to investigations involving federal deputy Eduardo Bolsonaro. (PL-SP) and evolution of actions against organized crime.

On the Court’s closest horizon are the trial, already in February and March, of the defendants accused of the murders of councilor Marielle Franco and driver Anderson Gomes, executed in March 2018 in Rio de Janeiro, and of the first parliamentarians accused of deviating from parliamentary amendments.
After spending almost the entire year of 2025 exclusively devoted to the coup plot, the First Committee will judge, on February 24 and 25, those accused of being responsible for the assassination of Marielle and the driver Anderson Gomes. Among the accused are brothers Chiquinho and Domingos Brazão, police chief Rivaldo Barbosa, Major Ronald Pereira and former Prime Minister Robson Calixto. The rapporteur is Minister Alexandre de Moraes.
The First College of the STF has scheduled for March 10 and 11 the trial of deputies Josimar Maranhãozinho (PL-MA), Pasteur Gil (PL-MA) and deputy Bosco Costa (PL-SE), denounced by the PGR for passive corruption and criminal organization. According to the prosecution, the group embezzled approximately 6.6 million reais in parliamentary amendments, charging bribes amounting to 1.6 million reais. The affair is reported by Minister Cristiano Zanin.
Another sensitive point on the agenda is the trial against MP Eduardo Bolsonaro (PL-SP), who is under investigation for coercion during the process, obstructing the investigation of a criminal organization and attempting to violently abolish the democratic rule of law. The complaint was accepted by the first jury, but the judgment on the merits is only expected to take place during the second half of the year. The case concerns the parliamentarian’s actions in the United States to pressure Brazilian authorities during investigations into the coup plot.
In addition to criminal actions, the STF will continue to monitor the implementation of the measures determined in ADPF 635, known as “ADPF das Favelas,” which addresses police killings in Rio de Janeiro. The decision, taken in 2025, imposed rules such as the use of body cameras and the presence of ambulances in operations.
After new violent operations in Complexo da Penha and Alemão, Rapporteur Alexandre de Moraes, who temporarily assumed the role of rapporteur on the case after the retirement of Minister Luís Roberto Barroso, called on the state authorities to provide clarification and opened an investigation, based on the action, which aims precisely to investigate the activities of these groups in the state and could have new developments.
