The Argentine President, Javier Milei, supported the actions of the President of the United States, Donald Trump, against Venezuela, during a speech at the 67th Summit of Heads of State of Mercosur, in Foz do Iguaçu, this Saturday (20/12).
This statement comes hours after the host, President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT), criticized the North American military presence in the region.
In his speech, the head of Casa Rosada called dictator Nicolás Maduro a “narcoterrorist,” as Trump calls him, and called the regime an “atrocious and inhumane dictatorship.” He also praised the “pressure” put by Trump on the South American country.
“Argentina welcomes the pressure from the United States and Donald Trump to liberate the Venezuelan people. The time for timidity on this issue is over,” declared the Argentine president.

Earlier, at the opening of the meeting, Lula expressed his concern about the intensification of tensions between the two countries. Without directly mentioning the United States, the PT member said that military movements “haunt” the region and that a possible armed intervention in Venezuela would be a “humanitarian catastrophe.”
“More than four decades after the Falklands War (between England and Argentina), the South American continent is once again haunted by the military presence of an extra-regional power. The limits of international law are being tested,” Lula underlined.
“An armed intervention in Venezuela would be a humanitarian catastrophe for the hemisphere and a dangerous precedent for the world,” added the Planalto leader.
Since August, the White House has expanded the military siege in Latin America under the pretext of combating drug trafficking in the region. The offensive includes positioning warships in the Caribbean Sea and bombarding ships, killing dozens. Lula, for his part, defends a peaceful solution to the conflict.
