According to the bulletin, the procedure went as planned and without complications, but Bolsonaro will continue postoperative care, which includes analgesia, motor physiotherapy and prevention of venous thrombosis.
Still according to the memo, the former president “is currently optimizing the clinical treatment of hiccups and the need for the interventional procedure should be re-evaluated in the coming days.”

Bolsonaro was admitted to DF Star hospital this Wednesday morning (24/12), under high security. This is the first time that the former president has left the PF Superintendency since his arrest on November 22.
By order of Minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the Supreme Federal Court (STF), the former president’s room is monitored by two PF agents, 24 hours a day, during the hospitalization period. Security teams must also be on alert inside and outside the hospital unit.
Understanding surgery
- Inguinal hernias, like Bolsonaro’s, occur when part of the intestine or other internal tissue “leaks” through a weakened point in the abdominal muscles, forming a lump or swelling that can cause pain and discomfort.
- The procedure involves repositioning tissue that protrudes from the abdominal wall.
- In Bolsonaro’s case, the bulge was identified in the groin. The surgical procedure can be performed laparoscopically or with a cut for correction.
- In all cases, general anesthesia is necessary. Doctors must place some sort of synthetic mesh to heal the opening. The barrier created will prevent hernias from returning.
