A few months after winning Serie C, the Ponte Preta team spoke out, in an official note, this Saturday (20), on salary arrears. Thus, the players, who were to play a training match against Rio Branco, opted for strike for lack of payment. The Monkey’s board of directors in turn claims to have been unable to release the amount “for reasons beyond the club’s control”.
Thus, the athletes announced the temporary stop on the basis of paragraph 5 of article 90 of the General Sports Law. They also warned that they would only resume training when the board of directors had resolved financial matters. According to the note, in some cases the delay reaches 7 months.
“As the press and supporters know, the majority of athletes have not received their 2025 vacation, the 13th salary for 2025, in addition to several months of late salary and image rights, which in some cases reach 7 months without due payment. (…) This is why we have communicated to the Board of Directors of AA Ponte Preta that, from 12/22/2025, we will suspend our activities, until the remaining funds are regularized,” he revealed.
“Paragraph 5 of Article 90 of the General Sports Law allows professional football athletes to stop their professional activities, including refusing to compete, when salaries are overdue for 2 (two) months or more, and it is this option that the athletes chose. It is in the law, so the judgment is fully valid”, explained Filipe Rino, lawyer who represents the athletes alongside Thiago Rino.
