Aguas Andinas, the company responsible for managing the urban water cycle in the Santiago metropolitan region, announced the signing of a strategic agreement with Colbún, one of the main electricity producers in the country, to supply its facilities that operate under a free customer regime with 100% renewable energy from 2026.
The agreement provides for the annual supply of 311 gigawatt hours (GWh), certified according to the international I-REC (Renewable Energy Certificate) system. This amount is equivalent, according to company estimates, to planting nearly 600,000 trees or removing more than 16,000 cars from the road.
The measure will benefit the production plants, distribution systems and extraction wells of Aguas Andinas and its subsidiaries Aguas Cordillera and Aguas Manquehue, which supply more than two million homes, or around eight million people in the Chilean capital.
“At Aguas Andinas, sustainability is part of the DNA of our work. Adopting 100% renewable energy in our operations is a crucial step in reducing our carbon footprint and contributing to the well-being of the community,” said José Sáez, general manager of the company.

From Colbún, its CEO, José Ignacio Escobar, highlighted that the agreement reflects a value proposition based on competitive prices, support with its own generation, expert support and contractual flexibility. “At Colbún we believe that sustainability is fundamental for the future and that our customers need reliable and competitive solutions. This agreement with Aguas Andinas is a reflection of our differentiating value proposition: competitive prices, support for energy production on our own assets, expert support and the flexibility to design a contract adapted to each customer. All this, added to the commitment and dedication of our team, makes us a strategic partner capable of providing renewable energy with reliable guarantees,” said José Ignacio Escobar, CEO of Colbún.
Both companies aim to strengthen their commitments to carbon neutrality by 2050, in line with national and international climate change targets.
