The general secretary and parliamentary spokesperson of the Popular Party of Castile-La Mancha, Carolina Agudo, asked this Monday to the regional president, Emiliano García-Page, that “Show your face immediately and put your party in order” after the advisor’s accusations … of Equality, Sara Simón, against local groups of the PSOE of Guadalajara for allegations of internal irregularities, statements which were later denied by the provincial PSOE itself and corrected by advisor.
Agudo denounced the “serious irresponsibility” of the regional government in the management of this episode and criticized the fact that the Minister for Equality “went into hiding” after the “mess she caused this weekend”, in reference to statements made on Friday which had national repercussions. As he recalled, they were first refused by the PSOE of Guadalajara and, a few hours later, the councilor herself publicly retracted.
“The seriousness is not only the accusation, but the subsequent silence of the entire PSOE Page in Castile-La Mancha and even more serious that the PSOE of Guadalajara itself refuses an advisor to the regional government and then regrets it,” said Agudo. In this sense, it was asked “What exactly does the advisor regret, whether it is accusing without reporting for eight years or making false accusations.”
The “popular” leader stressed that “accusing and not denouncing is irresponsible” and wondered why, if alleged internal irregularities were known, “The prosecution has not been contacted in the last eight years” and why this is being done now, calling into question the credibility and intentionality of the statements made by the Equalities Officer.
Agudo also expressed concern about a possible internal pressure within the PSOE to force rectification by Sara Simon. “We wonder if a leader of the PSOE from Castilla-La Mancha ordered Sara Simón to rectify, because We already know that the PSOE is embarrassed by women who denounce and we have seen recently how complaints within the PSOE have been covered up,” he noted.
“This must not continue for another minute”
In this context, the general secretary of the PP of Castilla-La Mancha was direct in affirming that “The Equalities Minister should not continue to lead her department for another minute,” given that there are only two scenarios. “Either she lied and should be fired, or she told the truth and Page should order the facts reported to a court,” he said.
Agudo insisted that the regional president cannot shirk his responsibilities in this matter. “If there have been irregularities within the PSOE of Guadalajara, Page must bring them to justice and if not, he must fire his advisor for making false accusations and what he cannot do is turn a blind eye and cover up what happened,” he stressed.
Finally, the parliamentary spokesperson of the PP framed this controversy in what she considers an internal crisis of regional socialism. “We are faced with a new scandal which demonstrates the decomposition of the PSOE of Page in Castile-La Mancha“, he declared, while demanding public explanations. “The people of Castile-La Mancha deserve an explanation and cannot continue to tolerate that the PSOE is dedicated to covering up instead of cleaning up,” he concluded.
