THE strike called this Wednesday by workers of several airlines and ground handling companies that operate at the main Italian airports will cause the cancellation of dozens of flights and possible delays in a day that promises to be difficult for air transport.
The sector’s unions have called a four-hour strike, from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at 5:00 p.m., to which the crews of Vueling and EasyJet, the ground staff of Air France and KLM, as well as the workers of the national airline ITA Airways were summoned.
Will also be affected ground handling company staff employees affiliated with Assohandlers, which operates in Italian airports. In the case of ITA Airways, this is the first strike since joining the Lufthansa Group, which holds 41% of the capital, and it has been reported that 72 national and international flights have been canceled at the moment.
Regarding the reasons for the Ita Airways staff strike, the sector unions underline: “The national contract must be renewed with a salary increase and a better quality of life, an industrial plan with greater investments in the fleet, the continued development and enhancement of staff who still benefit from the social safety net, the stabilization of temporary contracts and, finally, the correct payment of the performance bonus.
In the case of Vueling, the protest was called “in consideration of the violation of certain articles of the company contract and the company’s lack of transparency in the systematic use of foreign personnel on Italian territory. » They are also protesting after Vueling decided to change course and leave the Italian capital, closing its Rome Fiumicino base and, above all, beginning the procedure of dismissing more than 80 flight attendants.
During strikes, according to ENAC, there will be protected time slotsfrom 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. and from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., during which flights must continue to operate.
