Vice President Geraldo Alckmin (PSB) said on Friday evening (12) that the approval of PL Dosimetry is not a good example because it conveys the idea of light sanctions for white-collar crimes.
“I think we should never make legislative changes based on momentary problems. Legislation should be stable, it should be more structural, it should not be driven by local problems. And on the other hand, it also reinforces the feeling in public opinion that when it comes to a simpler person, then it is tough. But for white-collar crime, for the most powerful, it is soft. This is not a good example,” Alckmin said.
The vice president also celebrated the lifting of sanctions imposed by the Trump administration against Minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the STF (Supreme Federal Court), through the Magnitsky Act and said that President Lula played an important role in this measure.
“It is a very important and just decision, because no one can be punished for carrying out their duty, which is the duty of the Minister of the Supreme Court. So I think that this measure of the American government was important, it is an act of justice, a recognition of the work of the Supreme Court of Brazil, so we are always happy to see justice prevail,” he said.
Alckmin made these statements during the end-of-year party of Grupo Prerrogativas, left-wing lawyers linked to the Lula (PT) government.
The MP is one of those honored by the group this evening, alongside the Ministers of Finance, Fernando Haddad (PT), and Planning, Simone Tebet (MDB). The three are mentioned by PT members as possible candidates on the list of candidates in São Paulo next year.
Prerogativas’ lawyers defended Tebet in the Senate and argued for his transfer to PSB.
Haddad is considered the strong name of the PT to emerge as a candidate for the government of São Paulo in 2026. He admitted, in an interview with the newspaper O Globo, that he could leave his post as minister by April next year, without however specifying whether this would be a possible candidacy.
President Lula also participated in the event, organized at Casa Natura, in Pinheiros, west of São Paulo.
Also present were the Minister of Institutional Relations, Gleisi Hoffmann, the Minister of Agrarian Development, Paulo Teixeira (PT), and the former Minister of the STF Luis Roberto Barroso.
He added that there was much to define about the electoral scenario for 2026, in particular the announced presidential candidacy of Senator Flávio Bolsonaro (PL-RJ), eldest son of former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL).
“You will have several candidates, it is up to the parties to define who will be candidate. The fact is that Bolsonaro, with the government, spending three times the GDP in the year of the election to be re-elected, lost. Now, outside the government, it is very different,” recalled Alckmin, who, as Lula’s vice-president, was on the list that defeated Bolsonaro in the 2022 elections.
Alckmin also avoided saying whether he would run for re-election as Lula’s vice president, as the PSB demanded, or whether he intended to try to run for the Senate or even the São Paulo government, since he performed well in the polls for those positions.
“Let’s wait,” he said.
