Baceller was arrested last week as a preventive measure by the federal police, suspected of having warned former deputy Thiego dos Santos, TH Joias, of the operation that arrested him in September for his involvement in the Comando Vermelho.

In ordering the release of Bacellar, Moraes also ordered the removal of the deputy from the presidency of Alerj for the duration of the criminal investigation against the parliamentarian. In the meantime, command of the Legislative Chamber will return to the first vice-president, Guilherme Delaroli (PL).

Bacellar will also have to do night confinement at home during the week, from 7 p.m. until 6 a.m. the next day — the only exception, according to Moraes’ decision, will be when parliamentary activities in Alerj exceed this time.

The MP will also have to stay at home during all weekends, public holidays and public holidays. He will now wear an electronic bracelet on his ankle and will be banned from leaving the country. To do this, Moraes ordered Bacellar to hand over his passport.

The president of Alerj is also prohibited from communicating with other people under investigation by the federal police. Bacellar was preventively arrested on December 3, suspected of having warned TH Joias of the PF operation which was to arrest him, in September, for involvement in organized crime.

TH Joias is accused of involvement in the criminal faction Comando Vermelho and faces legal proceedings for money laundering, drug trafficking and illegal arms trade.

According to the Federal Police, Bacellar and TH Joias exchanged messages on the eve of the former deputy’s arrest. Investigations also showed that the president of Alerj advised the former parliamentarian to change his mobile phone and advised him to remove all evidence from his home.
