San Salvador, December 13 (EFE). – Alianza, led by the Argentine Ernesto Corti, and Luís Ángel Firpo, led by the Costa Rican Marvin Solano, reached the final of the Salvadoran Football Apertura tournament this Saturday evening after playing the second legs of the semi-finals.
Colombians Carlos Salazar and Michell Mercado contributed to the Albos del Alianza’s 3-1 victory over Cacahuatique in a game at the Jorge “Mágico” González National Stadium in Salvador and were dominated from start to finish by the locals, the Albos.
Alianza, representing the Salvadoran capital and reigning national champions, opened the scoring in the 17th minute with a goal from striker Salazar, who beat the Cacahuatique goalkeeper with a header.
The visiting team, led by Uruguayan Pablo Quiñones, showed weaknesses in midfield that made their attack difficult and allowed Alianza to gain a greater advantage.
Alianza’s second goal came in the 69th minute through Salvadoran midfielder Óscar Rodríguez, and Colombian attacker Mercado made the final score 3-0 in the 88th minute, making the series 5-1 overall.
Meanwhile, in the game in eastern El Salvador at the Sergio Torres Rivera Stadium, Firpo lost 1-0 to the Emplumados del Águila, led by Mexican coach José Carlos Chávez.
However, this result meant nothing for the Toros del Firpo, as in the first game they beat the Emplumados 3-1, so the overall result of this series was 3-2 in favor of Solano’s team.
Águila’s goal came in the 51st minute through Salvadoran defender Julio Sibrian.
Based on these results, Alianza and Firpo will play next Saturday the 20th in the grand final of the tournament, which will take place at the “Mágico” González Stadium.
Alianza reaches its 28th final after winning the 18th title in its history with a 5-0 win against Municipal Limeño in the Clausura 2024. This makes Alianza the second team with the most titles won in El Salvador’s First Division, ahead of Águila and one title behind Futbolistas Asociados Santanecos (FAS).
Firpo, representing the fashionable city of Usulután in the east of the Central American country, had not reached a final since 2013, the year they won their 10th crown after a 3-0 win against FAS. EFE
