Some of the main allies of the President of the Chamber of Deputies, Hugo Motta (Republicans-PB)in the House they criticized the decisions he made last week, believing that it was important for his image to move forward with a positive agenda to close the year instead of initiating new crises for his management. According to reports from at least three sources close to House leadership, Motta is expected to listen more to advice from those around him.
Some of the party leaders closest to the deputy recognize the errors and excesses committed by Hugo Motta during the week that weigh against him in the last part of the year, such as the decision to cut the signal of TV Câmara during the forced dismissal of Glauber Braga (Psol-RJ) from the Board of Directors and the episode of violence by the legislative police against parliamentarians and journalists.
Furthermore, personal friends of the Speaker of the House also claim to have been surprised by the decision to vote for the PL dosimetry and they say they advised Motta not to discuss the subject and to let the Senate initiate the discussion.
The idea of “putting aside thorny issues” to free oneself from the polarization to which Motta is hostage did not have the desired effect, in the opinion of sources close to the MP. The impact, in fact, was the opposite: the demonstration that the president does not have control of the plenary.
Main guarantor of his campaign, the former president of the Chamber of Deputies Arthur Lira (PP-AL) he also did not hide his criticism and irritation with the presidency of his successor after the reversal of the vote to dismiss MP Glauber Braga, who was ultimately simply suspended by the House.
“We need to reorganize the House. It’s a disaster,” Lira wrote in a group message with members of his House party. The messages were revealed by g1.
To GloboNews, Motta refuted this claim and said that “the presidency of the House is not motivated by individual convenience nor should it serve as a tool of revanchism.”
He declared that he works in the Chamber “with complete impartiality, exercising his responsibilities with seriousness, balance and openness to dialogue”.
On both ends of the House political spectrum, criticism of Motta is public. The leader of the PL, deputy Sóstenes Cavalcante (RJ)considers that the decision to revoke the mandates of Glauber Braga and Carla Zambelli (PL-SP) and the president’s personal action to revoke both mandates was a defeat for Motta.
“He tried to headbutt both sides, voting on dosimetry, which was what the opposition wanted, and on the stubborn debtor, which was in the government’s interest. But he also put sensitive issues on the agenda for both sides, in the case of cassation. He summoned MPs, trying to get votes (for cassation) and was defeated in both cases,” he said.
The leader of the PT, Lindbergh Farias (RJ)repeated that Motta “lost the conditions to be president.” “If I could give the Speaker of the House any advice, it’s to think about it. His decisions have been very erratic. He should talk more, listen more,” he said.
According to Lindbergh, “it’s a fact” that Motta is weakened. “He could have built a positive program. He built a program that didn’t please anyone here or in society,” he said.
The journalist contacted Hugo Motta through his press office, but received no response.
