Seville, December 14 (EFE). – The coach of Sevilla, the Argentine Matías Almeyda, was “happy” with the win against Real Oviedo (4-0), as it means they “end 2025 with a great win against a fan who really supports the team”, and also with the “many positive reactions” he sees from the group he leads.
“Every game is a final. That’s what we teach. They (the players) give everything and when things go well, it’s because they deserve it,” said Almeyda after the game, who called for “living the reality” of his team, now in the middle of the table, and hoped: “I wish all the games were like that, but winning the three points in LaLiga is not easy.”
The Sevilla coach considered that this victory was the result of “the dedication, the interpretation and the mental strength” that they gave to their team, especially in a duel in which they entered with ten absences between injuries and sanctions and which forced them to rely on “a lot of boys from the quarry”.
“I see a lot of good things, we played with a lot of young people from the quarry, the disposition of each one, the dedication, the interpretation… and then scoring four goals and not scoring. After the derby defeat and what also happened in the last game (in Valencia) when they drew us at the end, I think there is a lot of mental strength, a lot of calm that we are trying to instill because we know it will be like that,” he stressed.
Regarding the merit of this victory given the numerous losses they had suffered before the game, the coach of Azul (Buenos Aires Province) stressed that “everyone” must “have a predisposition to change, accept some things and look for ways to give peace to the group, because things and points will be achieved.”
“Today there were a lot of boys from the quarry and I manage not to burn them out, but there are many who give their best and that is appreciated. I always believe in the quarry because there is a sense of belonging that you can’t buy or sell. We try to give them confidence and make them good footballers and they know that they will talk to me and that I will use them when I see that they are ready to play,” he added.
When asked about the Nigerian striker Akor Adams, author of the 1-0 and two assists, and who he cannot count on in the coming weeks, like Chidera Ejuke, when he plays with his team at the Africa Cup of Nations, Almeyda said that they “have a lot of trust in Akor, he is important and today he played an excellent game.” EFE
