President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) spoke by telephone this Tuesday (16/12) with the President of the Chamber of Deputies, Hugo Motta (Republicanos-PB). This is the first conversation between the two leaders after the recent escalation of tensions between the executive and legislative branches.
According to interlocutors, they told the Metropolises“it was a calm and respectful conversation.” The telephone call made it possible to discuss economic issues still under analysis this year, such as the project which provides for a 10% reduction in tax exemptions.
The government wants to include the increase in taxes on betting and fintechs in the tax reduction project, which is being analyzed in the Casa Baixa plenary.
The economic team has been trying to increase taxes on online betting houses and payment companies since the first half of the year, when the Treasury published provisional measure 1303/2025, which increased the betting rate to 18% and equated the social contribution on net profit (CSLL) of fintechs with that of banks.
Planalto is in a hurry to approve the project before the budget vote, scheduled for Thursday (18/12), in order to close the public accounts for 2026.
