The preference for director Petra Costa’s film Apocalypse in the Tropics at the annual ceremony of the International Documentary Association (IDA), on Saturday the 6th of this month, in Los Angeles, has strengthened the fight for a place among the most likely contenders for the Oscar for Best Documentary Feature, as we reported in this column a little over a month ago. “An X-Ray of the Remarkable Influence of Conservative Evangelical Leaders on Jair Bolsonaro’s Political Rise to the Presidency (2019-2023), available on Netflix, received the most nominations (four): Best Documentary, Directing, Producing and Writing.”
