A fire broke out on Friday evening, frightening customers at the Peixada Botafogo restaurant, at number 216 Rua Real Grandeza, in Botafogo, in the southern zone of Rio. Videos taken by witnesses show a man on the terrace of the establishment using a fire extinguisher on a point of flames. White smoke spreads across the second floor, as customers begin to flee the scene.

The firefighters were called and soldiers from the Botafogo barracks arrived on the scene around 9 p.m.
— I’m at Sat’s, which is next door. Around 8:30 p.m., I heard the sound of the fire extinguisher and I went out to see what it was. Peixada’s second floor was filled with smoke. People were leaving the restaurant and quickly the fireman arrived here and the fireman left. The restaurant is resuming its activities. It couldn’t have been serious, one witness said.
