A small ultralight plane crashed early in the afternoon of this Saturday (27) in the Copacabana Sea, south of Rio de Janeiro.
Initial reports indicate the plane was advertising. Microlights often fly over neighborhood boundaries displaying business banners.
There is still no information on possible victims.
Firefighters said they were called to respond to the incident around 12:34 p.m. this Saturday, near station 3 of Copacabana beach.
The company operates on site with personal watercraft, inflatable boats, a dive team and air support. The operation involves around twenty soldiers.
Rio is experiencing a streak of hot days, which have driven locals and tourists to the beaches in the latter part of this year.
In Copacabana, the New Year’s Eve program is expected to attract 2.5 million people, according to city hall projections.
