NOTE OF CLARIFICATION AND REPUDIATION
The legal advisors of Grupo AgroPlay, which manages the career of the artist Ana Castela, publicly reject the attacks of digital influencers this week.
We need to educate and draw boundaries. A woman’s sexuality is not a crime. However, context is everything. Used by people without privacy, in a public manner, in a mocking tone and, mainly, associated with criticism of the physical appearance (“bone structure”) of a 22-year-old girl, the term ceases to be a question of identity and becomes a weapon of aggression and body shaming. This removes the mantle of “free speech.”
We will not allow a woman’s sexual orientation (real or speculated) and body to be transformed into a pattern of humiliation to generate engagement. The Internet is not a lawless country.
Appropriate legal measures are being analyzed, aimed not necessarily at reparation, but at educational responsibility.
We inform you that we have not yet taken any legal action.
Respect is non-negotiable.
We take this opportunity to thank each fan, page and user who spontaneously took a stand against cyberbullying and in favor of respect.
Seeing so many people understand that the body and sexuality is not something to laugh at and cannot be used for engagement gives us confidence that we are on the right path. The Internet can be a hostile place. It’s good that many people still choose empathy.
We remain attentive and grateful.
