Winning point for local government this Thursday after the proposal from Security plan that it was practically agreed, at least in the terms discussed with the local police, for Christmas in Seville after … the abstention of Vox by Cristina Peláez who carries out the initiative led by the mayor of Seville. The proposal comes into force this Friday, December 19, thus lifting the Level 1 Emergency Plan active since November 28.
A new stage therefore opens after the opposing votes of the PSOE, Podemos-IU and the abstention of Vox, which with the casting voice of Sanz fact that the Seville PP is advancing one of the most fundamental subjects in terms of security, such as its plan regarding the security of citizens during the current Christmas holidays, marked as always by a massive influx of the public and by the conflict that has become chronic in recent weeks.
As was the case with the Budget plenarypostponed until next Tuesday, the Sanz government was trying to gain some time to gain the support of the party led nationally by Abascal, and finally convinced this project of the people after Cristina Peláez decided to abstain in the vote on this municipal security project, both in the first and second vote. Only the PSOE and Podemos-IU rejected it in the plenary session this Thursday on an issue discussed and voted on urgently.
The opposition has already canceled the approval from the Local Police Christmas Plan to the Finance Commission and now the main acronyms at municipal level have failed to do the same in plenary after Vox publicly announced it was going to do the opposite. In certain files like this, Vox has been a helping hand for several initiatives of the Sanz Government, which already had an agreement with the majority union of the Local Police of Seville (Sppme), but here it had put a clear red line by understanding that Seville “cannot afford” said plan.
The spokesperson for Vox in Seville, Cristina Peláez, this Thursday at the municipal plenary session
“It’s not a blank check”
Peláez has already stressed that the argument for its rejection was based de facto on “the productivity plan which represents 4.6 million, which in addition to that are deducted from the 2026 budgets which are not even approved,” he said a few days ago. Peláez’s position was very different this Thursday after the mayor’s casting vote and Vox’s abstention and the Christmas security plan continues. “At Vox we are clear that security is not managed with a checkbook and quarterly patches,” Peláez said.
“The little news he offers is the guarantee of his government that the security of the city of Seville don’t be compromised during the holidays. “Only this commitment motivates our abstention,” added the spokesperson for Abascal’s party. “It’s not a blank check,” he said, referring to the Government. “Get involved in the reorganization of services and units, address the relationships between jobs and explain them to the public,” he stressed.
Juan Bueno, for his part, celebrated his role as deputy mayor, who pleaded for collective responsibility. “We are responsible for this in plenary from tomorrow,” he assumed, before thanking Vox. Ismael Sánchez was very unhappy from the Podemos-IU platform: “To vote no here today is to defend the rights of the local police,” he clarified. For his part, he described the socialist councilor as an “accomplice”. Juan Carlos Cabrera to Cristina Peláez. “It’s a shoddy job and it’s not a big deal, the mayor has lost control of the government and the city,” he said.
