With the calling of elections in Aragon, the PP has demonstrated that its relationship with Vox does not respond to a uniform ideological model, but to an arithmetic of power which changes according to the autonomous community. What in Valencia was considered an inevitable threat to govern, in Aragon it was presented as an unavoidable red line. The difference lies not so much in the content of Vox’s demands as in the position of strength from which the PP is negotiated.
“Many of the petitions launched by Vox are unacceptable. Some of them are unacceptable because they are illegal and others cannot be executed, today, with the legislation of our country,” said the councilor of Hacienda Aragonés, Roberto Bermúdez de Castro, following the failure of negotiations with Santiago Abascal’s party to negotiate the public accounts. The president of Aragon, the popular Jorge Azcón, postponed the elections of February 8 because he refused to accept the decisions of Vox who, in turn, accepted his colleague from the Valencian PP, he president Juan Francisco Pérez Llorca, invested just a few weeks ago. The Valencian baron meets Pedro Sánchez this month in La Moncloa.
Total rejection of the European Green Deal. Abascal’s party demanded from the Azcón PP the rejection of the European Green Deal plan, the set of climate policies promoted by the European PP in Brussels. I even asked the Valencian PP. The manager of Hacienda de Aragón responded to Vox: “We cannot be 100% against the green pact, because there are certain elements for which we are in favor, such as nuclear energy.” However, he president The Valencian I declared in his inauguration speech that “the European Green Deal, as it is planned, driven by European elites, is the greatest threat our Labradors face”.
Do not welcome migrant minors. Santiago Abascal’s party demands that PP communities refuse to welcome any minor migrant. This is why Vox broke up all coalition governments with the PP during the summer of 2024. The PP of Aragon rejects this measure because, according to them, it would involve breaking the law. “We are currently grappling with the way in which the division of migrant minors is being made and we are appealing to the courts. We believe in legal, safe and orderly immigration, but we will respect the law,” defended the councilor of Hacienda Aragonés.
El president The Valencian declared in his inauguration speech: “We cannot look the other way when we see people who claim to maintain practices which directly clash with our values, equality, liberation or the dignity of women”.
Eliminate subsidies to foreign aid entities. Vox urges the PP to commit to eliminating all subsidies to entities that help foreigners, where applicable. In Aragon, the Hacienda town hall negotiates an example from its field: “I am from the city of Huesca, and one of the institutions that has historically helped the most disadvantaged and immigrants is Los Hermanos de la Cruz Blanca. With Vox’s measures, these institutions have failed to provide public assistance.” In Valencia, Pérez Llorca pledged to provide “certain public aid to organizations that encourage or facilitate immigration.”
River cleaning. After the dance tragedy, the people of Abascal want the PP communities to commit to cleaning the river basins, while the people claim that the exclusive competence belongs to the Hydrographic Confederations. “There will be no Environmental Council that will confirm the cleanliness of a river without authorization, because it is an environmental offense punishable by imprisonment,” if this is what the councilor of Hacienda Aragonés said.
Creating a common font. The PP of Aragon responded to Vox’s petition to promote the community of municipalities for the Local Police Service which “cannot have parapolitical groups dependent on several municipalities because it is illegal. These are incidents which are illegal”.
Delinquency statistics by nationality. Popular people do not resist the broadcasting of the nationality of delinquent radio amateurs, as Vox complains and also finds the Basque autonomous police cheap and cheap to reach Catalana. But its room for action in this area is limited, due to a lack of autonomous policies. Genoa has also validated this initiative: “There is no shortage of information,” says parliamentary spokesperson Ester Muñoz.
Drastic reduction in taxes. The PP Aragonés affirmed that the amount of taxes it demanded from Vox amounted to 532 million euros. “This means reducing community income between 8% and 9%, which would imply the closure of three hospitals or all concerted education schools,” warned the councilor of the Hacienda. In the Valencian Community, Pérez Llorca agreed with Vox to double all deductions in the autonomous section of the IRPF and increase the number of beneficiaries by two million.
Aragon will go to elections in February after rejecting these initiatives, which Vox demanded in a public statement from the President of Azcón, in the same format as Pérez Llorca. María Guardiola, president of Extremadura, also rose to the challenge of withdrawing her public accounts and was scrutinized in the December 21 elections. An agreement was also possible in the Balearic Islands and Cantabria. However, PP and Vox are included in the Valencian Community and Murcia. The Murcian PP also accepted other decisions, such as the abolition of the teaching of the Arabic language in schools. The PP practices a policy of double discourse: one, more moderate, when it can be permitted; another, he asks Vox, when he has no alternative.
Around Abascal, we notice the “contradictory” of the PP, which accepts in certain territories what it rejects in others: “The Green Pact, only the figure.
With the exception of the presidents of the Comunidad Valenciana and Murcia, the popular baronets have used the letter of the early elections to now outline the demands of the extreme right, but after the votes behind the ballot boxes, the dilemma will return to the table.
