
The state Department of Transportation has released the Santa Teresa Metro, Train, Ferry and Tram Operations Plan. Check the timetables:
- On 31/12, ferry traffic will be normal, with no change to timetables.
- On 01/01, river transport operations will be carried out with the schedule of Sundays and public holidays. On the Arariboia line, intervals are 60 minutes. The Charitas and Cocotá (Ilha do Governador) lines do not operate.
- Travel times to Paquetá are available on the Barcas Rio website.
- 12/31 – broadcast from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.
- 01/01 – There will be no operation
- In the early hours of the 1st, departures will take place from Central do Brasil to the Santa Cruz, Japeri and Saracuruna branches.
- 12/29 – Monday: Operation according to normal working day schedule
- 12/30 – Tuesday: Operation according to normal working day schedule.
- 31/12 – Wednesday/New Year: Operation at fixed times, according to Saturday schedule
- 01/01 – Wednesday/New Year: In the early hours of the morning, additional trips will be planned to accommodate the return of customers from the New Year’s evening. After the end of these trips, traffic will operate at fixed times, according to the timetable for Sundays and public holidays.
Departures from Central do Brasil in the early hours of January 1, 2026 (the station will reopen at 12:20 a.m. for boarding) depending on the destination station
- Japeri – 3 express journeys, 4 journeys with stopover (also serves Deodoro agency)
- Express journeys: 0h50; 1:05; 1h20
- Journeys with stops: 1h50; 2h50; 3:50 p.m. and 4:50 p.m.
- Santa Cruz – 7 trips with stops (also serves the Deodoro branch). Times: 12:51 a.m.; 1:06; 01:21; 2:10; 3:10 a.m.; 5:10 p.m. and 5:10 p.m.
- Saracuruna: 6 trips with stops. Times: 1 hour; 1h20; 2 hours; 3h; 4 a.m. and 5 a.m.
- In addition to the Central do Brasil station, which will reopen at 00:20, the Maracanã station will also operate early in the morning, to serve the Maravira Rio event. The other stations will only be open for disembarkation.
Only passengers with a metro return passport will be able to board the system during the special operation on the night of 12/31, from 7 p.m. and on return until 5 a.m. on 1/1. The digital sale will close at 6 p.m. on 12/31 or earlier if stocks last.
New this year is the return bracelet, which will be given as soon as the passenger validates their special ticket at the turnstiles. The price of a metro passport for New Year’s Eve in Copacabana is R$15 (round trip). For the outward journey, passengers can choose five time slots: from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.; 8 p.m. to 9 p.m.; from 9 p.m. to 10 p.m.; 10 p.m. to 11 p.m.; and 11 p.m. at midnight. On return, from midnight until 5 a.m. on 01/01, boarding takes place at no fixed time.
Even those who do not use the QR Code along the way and board the metro after midnight must remove the bracelet, which can only be done at the Siqueira Campos/Copacabana, Cantagalo/Copacabana, General Osório/Ipanema, Jardim Oceânico/Barra da Tijuca and Maracanã stations, on the 31st, from 2:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.
- On 12/31, from 7 p.m., single, prepaid, Giro, Riocard Mais and Jaé cards (Bilhete Único and Vale-Transporte) or contactless payment (NFC) will not be accepted. These cards can only be used until 6:59 p.m. and will be valid again from 7:00 a.m. on January 1, in conjunction with the reopening for boarding, which will take place that day during holiday hours (7:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m.).
- Passengers are recommended to use the Siqueira Campos/Copacabana station to and from the event. On the outward journey, special tickets will be accepted at all stations except Cardeal Arcoverde/Copacabana. From midnight, they will only be accepted at stations open for boarding, namely Cardeal Arcoverde/Copacabana, Siqueira Campos/Copacabana, Cantagalo/Copacabana, General Osório/Ipanema and Jardim Oceânico/Barra da Tijuca.
