A little less than two months after its completion, this Monday the IEB+ Argentina Open ATP 250. The competition, which has been held continuously since 2001 and has become a summer classic in Buenos Aires, will be held from February 7th to 15th at the Buenos Aires Lawn Tennis Club. Several renowned players will be present on this occasion.
The Italian’s participation is included in the squad Lorenzo Musetti8th in the world rankings; the defending champion, the Brazilian Joao Fonseca (24th) and the Argentine Francisco Cerundolo (21st), aiming for his first title after reaching two finals on the clay court of Palermo.
At least officially there will be two debutants at the Buenos Aires Open. One of them is Italian Matteo Berrettini (56th), former top 10 and 2021 Wimbledon finalist; the other is French Gael Monfils (68.), who at the age of 39 is about to enter the final season of his career and chose Buenos Aires as one of the destinations for his farewell tour. The remaining participants will be announced in the first week of January when registration closes.
Francisco Cerúndolo was present at the presentation of the competition and emphasized: “I love playing in Argentina and I am very happy to come back again to take part in this tournament. I hope that I can win the title this year.”
Martin Jaitethe head of the test, pointed out the possibility Novak Djokovic: “We would be happy if he takes part in the tournament, but it doesn’t depend on us. First he would have to be at the Davis Cup in Chile – it is held a week before in Santiago – and from there we could start negotiations, but it is complicated.
