Paola Espíndola, a 23-year-old from Argentina, was stabbed by her partner, Alejo Grisetti, 25, at a hotel in Italy where they had both been hired to work during the winter season. The attack took place on December 10 in a hotel located in Campo Carlo Magno, in the Italian Alps, in the province of Trento. The victim jumped from the stairs of the establishment and survived.

According to newspaper Corriere della Sera, the couple started working at the hotel at the end of November. On the day of the attack, Paola was having breakfast when she was surprised by the attacker.
“He grabbed her from behind and stabbed her once in the chest,” the victim’s sister, Maira Espíndola, said in an interview with Radio Net on Wednesday. “The rest of the stab wounds were to the arms and back,” he added.
Even injured and bleeding, the young woman managed to escape. She went down a flight of stairs and, at the next, threw herself in an attempt to escape her attacker. “She ran down the stairs. She was conscious the whole time,” Maira reported.
Hotel employees recognized the seriousness of the situation and immediately contacted authorities and emergency services. A few minutes later, police officers from the Madonna di Campiglio police station arrived on the scene.
Paola was taken by helicopter to Santa Chiara Hospital, in Trento, where she underwent several surgeries. “Right now, Pao is undergoing surgery on her right hand due to a knife wound that ruptured a tendon. She is out of danger. It’s a miracle. Doctors can’t explain it,” the sister said. According to her, the young woman had two punctured lungs, a fractured shoulder blade and only one functioning kidney.
Grisetti was also transported to the same hospital with minor injuries. “A witness said he injured himself. He only needed three stitches in his abdomen,” Maira said. After being released, the young man was arrested and charged with attempted murder. The investigating judge Enrico Borrelli will be responsible for collecting his testimony and the prosecutor Nadia La Femina is also working on the investigation.
During the interview, Maira Espíndola reported the events preceding the attack and denounced a situation of prolonged violence. “A year ago she went to live in Italy with this person, her partner, someone very dear to all of us. They went to try their luck. They even got married. They always seemed happy,” he said. Then he added: “They left on January 28. Two weeks after he arrived in Italy, he started attacking her.”
According to the press release, Paola lived under the constant control of her attacker. “She couldn’t escape. He had control of her cell phone. All the messages we received during that time came from him,” the sister explained. “She tried to get out of that situation, but they lived in such a small town that there was no way. »
Maira also revealed that her sister had sought help days before the attack. “She found the courage to speak to the hotel staff. She asked for help. She told them they wanted to kill her,” he reported. According to her, the hotel agreed to transfer Grisetti to another establishment. “This deal was made last Tuesday. On Wednesday, thinking he was gone, Paola went to work. And this person was hiding, waiting to attack him.”
After receiving the news, Maira hurried to Italy. “They called me to tell me that Alejo had stabbed Paola and that we didn’t know if she was alive or not. I missed work,” he said. “I bought a ticket and traveled without telling anyone in my family. It took me 38 hours to see her. When I saw her, she said to me: ‘I knew you were coming. I was waiting for you’.”
The sister also said she would do everything possible to hold the attacker accountable. “I am doing everything in my power, moving heaven and earth, to make sure this person rots in prison.”
While Paola recovers, the family has launched a fundraising campaign to cover travel, accommodation and medical costs, in addition to allowing both of them to return to Argentina. Anyone who wants to contribute, as reported by the newspaper El Norte, can do so by bank transfer to the alias Todos.por.pao.
