This Sunday morning (7), the civil police launched Operation Red Card, aimed at identifying those responsible for threats made against an international leader. The offensive was in compliance with five orders from the Porto Alegre court, including three search and seizure warrants, related to the crimes of threat and injury.
According to the investigation, the attacks began on November 28, shortly after Inter’s 5-1 defeat against Vasco in Rio de Janeiro. After this match, the coach began to receive insults and messages threatening physical attack via WhatsApp. The situation repeated itself after the 3-0 defeat against São Paulo last Wednesday, prompting a police search.
According to delegate Isadora Galian, of the Special Cyber Investigation Department, the structure of the messages indicates that the attackers placed responsibility for the negative results on the field on the club’s management. The investigation also showed that the leader’s personal phone number had been inappropriately disclosed, generating further attacks from different members of an organized supporter base.
Internacional informed, through its advisors, that it would not comment on the matter.
Suspects identified and precautionary measures
Two men have been identified as suspects. Both have criminal records. One of them has a criminal record for threats, damage, battery and drug possession, having recently left the prison system. The other is involved in cases of domestic violence and recent assaults. During the execution of the arrest warrants, a revolver, ammunition and narcotics were seized at one of the addresses, but the person charged was not at the scene.
The court ruled that both men were banned from attending Internacional matches – at any stadium, inside or outside the state – for a period of six months. The club received the decision to block access.
Failure to comply with these requirements may result in preventive detention.
The Director of the State Department for the Suppression of Cybercrime, Delegate Eibert Moreira, stressed that police action is necessary in the face of abuses committed in the digital environment:
The police must also include in the investigation the investigation into drug trafficking and the illegal possession of a weapon seized during the operation.
