What should have been a short and emotional visit to share the year-end celebrations in La Plata ended up turning into a desperate situation. Paula, a young woman from La Plata who lives in Europe, came to the city with her partner, a Spanish citizen, and a few hours after their arrival they were victims of a robbery that prevents them from returning today.
The incident occurred after 6 p.m. on Sunday, shortly after the couple got off a bus that was taking them from the city of Buenos Aires to the La Plata terminal. With minimal oversight, they stole a bag that was on the bus in which they were carrying personal belongings and important documents.
The stolen items included the Spanish passport in the name of Julián Ruiz Delgado, as well as the identity card, cards, money, a cell phone and personal items. The loss of the passport is crucial as the couple plans to return to Spain on December 26, once the holidays they planned to spend with their family are over.
According to them, it all happened “in a two-second mistake and it disappeared from the roof of the bus” and they only noticed the missing thing when it was impossible to find it again. Since then, they have been contacting the authorities and maintaining contact with the relevant consulate, although they are aware that the procedures are complex and time-consuming.
The urgency is clear: they must at least get their passport back in order to resume their life abroad. “Our lives are here. This is a vacation,” they explained anxiously as they waited for a solution that would allow them to complete a vacation that began with excitement and was marked by fear.
