At least 25 people died in a fire that broke out at dawn on Sunday at a nightclub in a popular tourist destination in the Goa region. The head of government of this Indian state, Pramod Sawant, ordered a judicial investigation into this success. “I am carefully analyzing the situation arising out of the tragic Arpora fire incident, in which 25 people lost their lives and 6 left a legacy. All six heroes are stable and receiving the best medical care. I have ordered a judicial inquiry into the entire incident to determine the cause and their responsibilities,” Sawant said in a message published in X.
In statements to the Indian agency ANI, Sawant himself said that the fire took time to extinguish. “Some people could run, but others could not. As a result, some people were asphyxiated. According to preliminary information, four were tourists and the rest were club employees,” said the head of government of Goa, a tourist enclave popular with Indian and foreign visitors on the Arabian Sea coast.
The Goa Police are still investigating the incident. The main hypothesis is that the calls were made after a gas cylinder exploded inside the Birch By Romeo Lane nightclub. “There was a sudden commotion when the llamas started to disperse. We ran out of the club and saw that the entire structure was surrounded by llamas,” a tourist who was in the club at the time of the fire told Indian news agency PTI.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday offered condolences to the families of the deceased and compensation to the relatives of the fatal victims and inheritance. Goa, characterized by its beaches and resorts, clubs, discos and seaside bars, is a popular tourist destination for Indian tourists and foreign visitors. The state can be categorized as one of the safest in India. Fires are frequent in the country because the infrastructure does not have the best initial construction conditions.
