An avalanche surprised a group of people in Pico Tablato, near the spa resort of Panticosa, in the Huesca Pyrenees, leaving at least three people dead and a woman slightly injured. The 112 notification arrived around 1:00 p.m. this Monday, as reported by the Civil Guard.
The landslide occurred at approximately 2,700 meters above sea level, near Brazatos Lakes. According to initial information, the group consisted of six people, two of whom managed to leave on their own, while the search is underway for the other four. The extent of the avalanche is still unknown.
Following the warning, the Civil Guard mobilized the Mountain Rescue and Intervention Group (GREIM), in collaboration with the Air Unit and a doctor from 061. In addition, the Government of Aragon activated a medical helicopter from 112 and gave a pre-alert to the Military Emergency Unit (UME) in case its intervention was necessary.
According to the snow report from the National Meteorological Agency (Aemet), the risk of avalanches for this Monday was level 2 out of 5, with blown snow at heights and wet snow on sunny slopes, especially at low altitude. Aemet warns of possible recent snowfall on unplowed high mountain slopes, even if the stability of the coat tends to improve.
Rescue teams continue to work in the area to locate trapped people and ensure their safe evacuation.
The president of the Government of Aragon, Jorge Azcón, canceled his agenda of rapprochement with the city after learning the news, as announced by the social network X.
The Government delegate in Aragon also goes to the Pyrenean town where the accident occurred.
