The Argentine Football Association (AFA) published a detailed statement this Monday to respond to the senator’s complaint Patricia Bullrich presented before the Conmebol Ethics Commission against President Claudio “Chiqui” Tapia and Treasurer Pablo Toviggino. In the text, the company defended its leadership, emphasized that it “does not receive a single peso from the state today” and concluded with a sentence in a defiant tone: “After all, in the AFA we don’t talk about politics, but about football. The rest should be discussed in the stands.”
The political offensive had begun hours earlier when Bullrich published that he had denounced Tapia and Toviggino for a “thorough” investigation into what he denounced as “a mafia running the AFA,” with questions about national team funds, awards, hiring and alleged administrative irregularities.
