MADRID, December 10 (EUROPA PRESS) –
Clashes between Thailand and Cambodia along their border have already displaced more than half a million people, after the Cambodian Defense Ministry estimated that more than 100,000 people have been evacuated since attacks this weekend that left around ten dead.
The military portfolio estimated that “20,105 families, or 101,229 people” were evacuated from five provinces targeted by attacks by Thai troops: Pursat, Preah Vihear, as well as Banteay Meanchey, Oddar Meanchey and Siem Reap, these being the origins of most of the victims.
As reported by Phnom Penh through the social network
Thai authorities, for their part, have reported that the Cambodian attacks have caused the displacement of some 400,000 of its inhabitants in the border area.
The latest clashes on the Thai-Cambodian border have left at least ten dead and dozens injured in both countries, after Thai forces attacked Cambodian positions a few days ago after reporting the death of one of their soldiers at the hands of the neighboring country’s troops.
In recent weeks, they have also exchanged multiple accusations of provocations in their border area, reviving the July escalation that led to the aforementioned agreement and which led in just five days to the deaths of around fifty people and hundreds of thousands of displaced people, in what was the most intense clashes between the two countries in more than a decade.
