The Attorney General’s Office (FGR) of Ernestina Godoy revoked this Thursday the benefit of collaborating witness of businessman Raúl Rocha Cantú, owner of the Miss Universe contest, according to a press release from the agency itself. This judicial privilege was granted to the businessman during the tenure of former federal prosecutor Alejandro Gertz (2019-2025), a decision announced shortly before his departure from office. Rocha Cantú used it to avoid the first arrest warrant against him. The Mexican businessman is accused of participating in a conspiracy to smuggle fuel, weapons and drugs from Guatemala, which links him to the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) and La Unión Tepito.
The Public Prosecutor’s Office supported the revocation of the benefit of cooperating witness based on three main points: the failure of the owner of Miss Universe to appear before his calls or those of the Security Secretariat, his failure to appear before the Prosecutor’s Office against Organized Crime and a request from Pemex representatives to cancel the agreement on the grounds that Rocha Cantú did not meet the requirements.
The FGR also indicated that the businessman – who recently announced the transfer of the beauty pageant’s headquarters from Mexico City to New York – is outside the country and considers him a fugitive from justice, which is why the prosecution requested a new arrest warrant for organized crime, recognized by a judge.
