Sajid Akram and his son Naveed, who killed 15 people and injured more than 40 during a Hanukkah celebration at Sydney’s Bondi Beach, arrived on November 1 with the southern province of Davao as their final destination.
“Sajid Akram, 50, an Indian citizen, and Naveed Akram, 24, an Australian citizen, arrived together in the Philippines on November 1, 2025, from Sydney, Australia,” immigration spokesperson Dana Sandoval told AFP, adding that they left on November 28.
The father died during the shooting. In turn, the son is in a coma in the hospital and in police custody.
The two attackers sparked a shooting spree on Bondi Beach on Sunday as a crowd celebrated the Jewish holiday of Hanukkah. For Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, these attacks were probably motivated by the ideology of the jihadist group Islamic State (ISIS).
Hours after the shooting, police found a pipe bomb in a car parked near the affected beach and said the “improvised explosive device” may have been planted by the attackers.
