Pillar Dark joy in the polls that the Aragonese parties succeed in view of the next elections on February 8. Most of the “tracking”, which organizations have been preparing since the summer in anticipation of early elections like those of the … If this ultimately happened, they point out that the secretary general of the PSOE of Aragon, who will lead the candidacy for the first time, could fall to 17 seats, losing six representatives in the Cortes of Aragon compared to the 23 that Javier Lambán obtained two and a half years ago. Until now, the worst historical result of the PSOE of Aragon was obtained by Lambán in 2015, due to the emergence of Podemos, with only 18 deputies.
None of the polls carried out by the Aragonese parties show an improvement in the results of the socialist leader, promoted by Pedro Sánchez as a rival to the “popular” Jorge Azcón, against the criteria of an important part of the party, which criticized Ferraz’s interference.
Although initially the mayor of Bujaraloz, Darío Villagrasa, presented his candidacy during the primaries that elected Alegría, the entourage of the minister and Moncloa invited him to renounce in exchange for his integration into the regional leadership. However, despite the efforts made by the Secretary General to heal the wounds, especially with leaders like Lola Ranera in Zaragoza or Mayte Pérez in Teruel, the truth is that Lambán’s succession leaves the party very divided. And several voices suggest that a bad result from Alegría, like the one predicted by the polls, “will reopen Pandora’s box.”
His two and a half years as spokesperson for Moncloa, defending amnesty or privileges and concessions to separatism, as well as his disconnection from Aragon, benefiting as Minister of Sports from the Montmeló circuit in Alcañiz or the lack of support for the new La Romareda stadium, are some of the problems that penalize his candidacy. Also the photo with former Sánchez advisor Paco Salazaraccused by several women of sexual harassment, with whom he had lunch just a few weeks ago, while Ferraz let the complaints against Salazar die.
“Put the game in order”
Alegría said goodbye yesterday Tuesday as government spokesperson, assuming that “when Aragon calls, I don’t think about it for a minute.” The truth is that the Minister of Education, Vocational Training and Sports has brought forward her departure from Madrid to “put the party in order” in Aragon. With him, his historic director of communications, Manuel Gracia, will also pack his bags, to whom precisely this organization has been entrusted internally – even if he himself recently admitted his desire to take imminent retirement. At the Aragonese PSOE they point out that there are also concerns regarding daily training and point to the secretary of the Organization Manuela Berges, chosen by Alegría, as the main person responsible. “It didn’t work,” says a party source, who recognizes “that he failed to keep control of the party.”
Azcón will be able to choose
The current president of the Government of Aragon and candidate for re-election of the Popular Party, Jorge Azcón, will be able to choose a traveling companion for the next legislature. The Aragonese leader, one of the most emerging of the PP at the national level, would manage to improve between three and four seats the 28 which allowed him to form a government thanks to Vox two and a half years ago. Although it would approach the absolute majority, which in the case of the Cortes of Aragon is set at 34, the regional leader of the PP should agree with the candidacy of Alejandro Nolasco, whose differences led to the electoral advance, or with the regionalists of Teruel and Aragon Exist, who could improve their result compared to 2023.
Jorge Azcón chose this Monday to call citizens to the polls on February 8 in the face of the “blockade” to which, according to him, the opposition formed by the PSOE and Vox is subjecting the cabinet he chairs. His Minister of Finance and Interior, Roberto Bermúdez de Castro, prepared some considerable budgetswhich increased investments with a historic spending ceiling of 7.979 million euros, which helped strengthen health, education and social protection. In addition, the accounts consolidated the tax reduction and stimulated the economy, with investments of tens of billions of dollars in the technology and automobile sectors.
Vox, with which Azcón began the legislature with Alejandro Nolasco as vice president, left the government more than a year ago under the leadership of Abascal, due to the PP’s position on immigration issues. Although the two groups maintained contact to agree on the accounts, those of Nolasco showed from the first moment their refusal to facilitate approval. The PSOE, in a desperate move by Alegría to avoid the electoral advance, at a time when it does not benefit him, offered the regional president its votes to approve them, but he rejected them, considering it “a poisoned gift”.
