
Judge Vivian Polanía was found dead in her apartment in Cúcuta on Wednesday, December 17, along with her baby, about two months old, who showed signs of dehydration and had to be admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU).

“The baby was quite dehydrated.“, confirmed Colonel Libardo Fabio Ojeda Eraso, commander of the Municipal Police of Cúcuta, who led the investigation.
According to the official, police teams accompanied by Polanía’s mother and a locksmith entered the apartment after receiving the warning because the judge had not responded to the calls.
“We entered the apartment and in the main room we found the judge lying with the baby, who was about a month and a half old,” said the commander. The officer reported that after the inspection, no signs of violence were found on the body or at the scene.

The infant was immediately taken to a health center where he received medical care.
“He was transferred to a care center because, I think, the child had not eaten for more than 12 hours (…) He is in intensive care, but his health is stable and he is recovering satisfactorily.“Colonel Ojeda Eraso, speaking to the News, explained: At the time of transfer, the child only had the live birth certificate as he was not yet registered.
The police activated protocols to restore the minor’s rights. According to the official, “our protocols are also addressed to the children and youth police to restore rights and we hand it over to the Icbf, which determines who it will be handed over to,” he said.
The Colombian Institute for Family Welfare (Icbf) will be responsible for deciding the baby’s future fate.
During the initial inspection and evidence collection, the experts found: “Based on the corpse’s stiffness and the judge’s anger, I can tell you that the time of death would be approximately early morning.“Ojeda Eraso added.

Judge Polanía’s last known contact was the night before with one of the men who stood by her side and brought her a home service at 8 p.m.
The order has not been lifted and the condominium’s surveillance cameras are being checked by authorities.
The versions collected by the police indicate that Judge Polanía did not live with her son’s father. “From the versions that both the judge’s mother and the group’s security guard give us, we know that they did not live together. (…) In the interview that was conducted with him, he stated that he had no contact with the judge two days ago,” concluded the commander.
