The emergency services of the Generalitat received 511 notifications due to the storm that hit the Catalan coast this Tuesday. Most alerts (60%) focused on the Barcelona region and, of these, 72% took place in Badalona.
This city is one of the most affected by the rains and is where the storm hit the hardest, recording significant accumulations of water in various streets and causing the closure of the Gorg metro station.
The Meteorological Service of Catalonia has issued an observation warning for heavy rain showers (more than 20 millimeters of water in 30 minutes) and potentially exceeding 100 liters per square meter in 24 hours in Badalona, where ground floors and some buildings were also flooded.
In addition to Barcelona, the regions of Vallès Occidental and Vallès Oriental were also very affected, where heavy downpours also fell and many roads were flooded.
Likewise, simultaneous incidents took place on the urban and interurban roads of Barceònès, southern Maresme, Vallès Occidental and Vallès Oriental. Similarly, damage has been reported in various rodalia lineages. Concretely, R2 and R2Sud record delays which exceed 20 minutes on average due to speed limits. For its part, the Barcelona metro has reported incidents on lines L2 and L3.
Faced with this circumstance, the Civil Protection of the Generalitat activated the Inuncat alert and, in addition, the Besòs River Park activated its emergency plan in the event of the river overflowing. It was only late in the afternoon that the firefighters reported an improvement in the situation and a reduction in the number of incidents. But despite this, authorities continue to ask citizens to restrict travel and take extreme precautions.
