Mobile phone thefts in Pendotiba increased in the first half of 2025, from ten cases between January and June 2024 to 18 during the same period this year. However, absolute figures remain low in the region. Among its nine neighborhoods, Largo da Batalha leads the ranking of occurrences, with five records, three more than in the first six months of the previous year. The area sees a lot of movement of people, as it is one of the main crossing points between Guanabara Bay and Pendotiba Beach. In addition, it serves as an access district to the Oceanic Region.

Badu is the district with the highest number of cases, seven in total, five more than the same period last year. In second place comes Largo da Batalha, with five. Maceió and Maria Paula recorded three incidents each, while Cantagalo, Ititioca and Matapaca recorded two thefts. Sapê and Vila Progresso each had one case.
Vehicle theft: decrease
The only indicator that showed a reduction in the Pendotiba region was vehicle theft, a more common crime over the past semester than cell phone theft. The index went from 19 cases in the first half of 2024 to 16 in 2025.
In this indicator, Badu also leads the regional statistics, with four cases. Next come Sapê and Vila Progresso, with three discs each; Maria Paula and Matapaca, with two; and Cantagalo and Largo da Batalha, with one occurrence each. The neighborhoods of Ititioca and Maceió did not record vehicle thefts during the period analyzed.
Despite regional increases in rates of passerby and cell phone theft, some neighborhoods have seen specific reductions. Sapê recorded a decrease from five to three cases of vehicle theft.
In Vila Progresso, thefts committed by passers-by went from two cases to one. Maria Paula, on the other hand, recorded a decline in all three indices: thefts from passers-by fell from four to three, vehicle thefts fell from three to two and cell phone thefts fell from two to one this semester.
Regarding thefts in collectives, the region recorded only one incident during the period, recorded in Largo da Batalha.
