Baenacapital of the Campiña Guadajoz-Este region in the province of Córdoba, could multiply its geographical location almost exponentially since according to the plans of the Central Government and Junta de Andalucía becomes a … perfect crossroads between two very important highways like the Olivar Highway (which unites Ubeda and Estepa and the entire backbone of Andalusia with territories with a marked oil character) and the A-81, the busy highway between Badajoz and Granada with his passage through Cordoba and his departure towards Portugal.
However, as the years accumulate, expectations regarding these two major infrastructures remain intact. Whether with a municipal administration of PP or PSOE (as is the case now), forgetting continues. A circumstance that the Baenense Council has once again officially revealed to the President of the Spanish Government and the President of the Junta de Andalucía.
According to the Town Hall, Baenense has put in writing “the urgency to act on two strategic infrastructures for the region such as the N-432 motorway and the Olivar motorway (A-318).” In her letter addressed to the Spanish government, the mayor, Maria Jesus Serrano (PSOE), expressed “the concern of citizens regarding the high number of accidents” recorded on the N-432, particularly in the section that crosses Baena and neighboring municipalities.
N-432: accidents worry
In this way, “asks the Government to immediately include” the conversion into the A-81 highway in state planning, “urgent improvements that increase safety in the most dangerous sections and planning that takes into account the reality of the municipalities of Guadajoz and Campiña Este, where this road is essential for mobility, economic development and population settlement”. It should be remembered that during the last visit to Córdoba by the Minister of Transport, Óscar Puente, a few weeks ago, it was clearly indicated that there was no priority for Córdoba in this infrastructure, as it advances through Granada and Badajoz.
Serrano, who was a socialist senator and environmental advisor to the Andalusian government, is firm with her own colleagues and recalls that the N-432 is an “essential infrastructure” that connects Córdoba to Granada, and that “its current state conditions the daily life of neighbors, businesses, services and emergencies.”
In the letter sent to the president of the Junta de Andalucía, the City Council demands the “need to promote the ongoing procedures to complete the development of the Olivar Highway» which he also considers “key” to improve the connectivity of the municipality, “increase the competitiveness of the agricultural and agri-food sector; promote industrial and tourism development, reduce travel times and increase mobility safety.
The socialist mayor insists on the fact that “Baena and its region have years of waiting for real progress in this strategic project, fundamental for the territorial structure of Andalusia.
