A video with the testimonies of traders involved in the confusion recorded on the beach of Porto de Galinhas, on the coast of Pernambuco, went viral on social networks this Monday (29/12). Despite the traders’ attempt to present their version of events, Internet users criticized the content, saying that nothing justifies the violence reported by tourists.
In the footage, beach workers refute accusations made by a tourist couple from Mato Grosso, who reported attacks after a disagreement over charging for the use of chairs on the strip of sand.

Porto de Galinhas: tourists are beaten by merchants because of bills
The video, posted on the profile of an influencer who also works in the region, is directed by a worker identified as. From the start, he denies that the episode has a homophobic motivation. “It wasn’t a case of homophobia. They’re trying to tie it into history and it wasn’t,” he said.
According to the merchants’ version, the rental value of the structure would have been informed in advance – R$80 – and the tourists would have exceeded the limit authorized for tents, demarcated by flags on the sand.
Dinho says there is a charge for using umbrellas and chairs and no one works for free. “No one will forbid you from sitting on the sand, but if you use an umbrella, you will have to pay for the service,” he says.

Also in the video, the workers claim that the tourists were drunk at the time of the disagreement and dispute reports that dozens of people participated in the attacks. “It was a general fight, I’m not going to defend it. But there weren’t 30 people. There were four, five,” Dinho said.
Another worker, identified as Vera, reports that there was some confusion when the tourists allegedly refused to allow other people to sit in front of them. Eduardo, also a stall owner, claims to have been attacked first. “He gave me a rear-naked choke, I was left unconscious on the ground,” he claims.
The video also features the testimony of Guilherme, a tourist from Belo Horizonte, who says he has been visiting Porto de Galinhas for years and claims to have never had any problems with the merchants involved. According to him, the version presented by the workers “is not a lie”.
Reaction
The merchants’ stance was criticized by internet users, who reported experiences similar to those of the couple in the Pernambuco destination. “Stop bragging, you don’t even respect us who are from here,” said an Internet user who lives in the region. “They charge absurd amounts, mistreat them and threaten me even though I have already suffered… I will never go to this place again,” another user commented.

Understand the case
The couple Johnny Andrade and Cleiton Zanatta had rented tents and chairs to spend the day at the beach this Saturday (12/27).
During the settlement, Johnny and Cleiton were attacked by traders after inquiring about the price charged for the temporary use of beach utensils. According to the couple, the final value was almost double the price initially agreed upon.
When Johnny said he would only pay the agreed amount, the businessman disagreed with the tourists and began assaulting them by throwing a chair at them, followed by further attacks from his colleagues, who joined in beating the couple.
Jhonny and Cleiton report that they went looking for help after the excessive violence and found no security guards. The personal trainer reported that his partner Cleiton ran for help, but there were no police and, according to the couple, firefighters did not insist on controlling the situation, despite the chaos that occurred.
After the repercussion of the case, the profile of the Pernambuco administration published a note, and Governor Raquel Lyra (PSD) described the case as a “serious crime”. According to the state government, at least 14 people have been charged so far as part of the police investigation.
