
The president of Banco do Brasil, Tarciana Medeiros, was elected by the North American magazine Forbes as one of the most powerful women in the world in 2025.
She is the only Brazilian on the list of 100 women highlighted by the publication for the third consecutive year. Tarciana appears in 18th place in the ranking.
The BB president beats out names like Taylor Swift, Oprah Winfrey and Beyoncé.
What Forbes says
The magazine, one of the most prestigious in the United States, highlights that the president of Banco do Brasil is the first woman to lead the financial institution in more than 200 years of company history.
According to the publication, Tarciana has established herself as a “passionate advocate” for environmental policies. The magazine discusses the executive’s speech at the United Nations General Assembly in 2023 on the importance of increased funding for environmentally friendly businesses.
“The same month, it signed a partnership between Banco do Brasil and the Inter-American Development Bank to invest US$250 million in renewable energy resources and sustainable infrastructure,” explains Forbes.

To define the list of the 100 most powerful women on the planet, the magazine takes into account factors such as visibility, fortune and influence.
What does the president of BB say?
After the nomination, Tarciana Medeiros said that “this recognition goes to all my colleagues and partners who transform BB’s strategies and actions into reality.”
“It’s a tribute that includes a lot of dedication, effort, representation and gratitude. It still makes me think about the impact this nomination can have. Knowing that I can help open paths and show that dreams are possible is what really gives meaning to it all,” said the president of Banco do Brasil.
Other women on the Forbes list
According to the North American publication, the 100 women chosen as the most powerful in the world stood out, in 2025, for their resilience and tenacity in the face of “job losses comparable to those of the pandemic, worsening online toxicity and some political reprimand”.
Among other names, Sanae Takaichi, the first woman to become Prime Minister of Japan, and author, activist and philanthropist MacKenzie Scott, ex-wife of Jeff Bezos, appear in the ranking.
Top stars include AMD CEO Lisa Su and businesswoman, actress and influencer Kim Kardashian. Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, and Christine Lagarde, President of the European Central Bank (ECB), also appear in the ranking.
The top 5 of the Forbes list is made up of Von der Leyen, Lagarde, Takaichi, Giorgia Meloni (Italian Prime Minister) and Claudia Sheinbaum (President of Mexico).
Who is Tarciana Medeiros
Tarciana Medeiros holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration and a postgraduate diploma in administration, commerce and marketing as well as leadership, innovation and management. She has been an employee of Banco do Brasil for over 20 years.
In 2021, she became general director of the Retail, MPE and PF Customer Department, responsible for customer relationship cycles. In 2019, she assumed the role of Executive Director within the Lending and Financing Solutions department.
In 2018, Tarciana assumed the commercial executive superintendence of BB Seguros. In 2017 she was qualified by the BB Executive Professional Advancement Program and, between 2015 and 2017, she led the commercial superintendence of BB Seguros.
