
It is not a product of pure politics, and even less a coincidence, that all the presidential alternatives to the Bolsonaro family are governors. Five at a time (TarcÃsio de Freitas, Romeu Zema, Ratinho Júnior, Ronaldo Caiado and Eduardo Leite) is something never seen before in Brazil’s relatively short democratic history, and so much enthusiasm for this group can be explained by the general favorable trend in public opinion, manifested in government evaluation surveys. The root of this windfall is fiscal, as we will try to explain in this column.
